We did a 5k with Leia, celebrating survivors of brain injuries. We are so happy that she is a survivor and doing so well! She loves being home and we love having her home. Thank you for your continued love and support for our family. We could not do this without you. We are grateful for you everyday.

Coming Home
May 8
I'll probably be able to come home tomorrow!! I just have a few more tests to pass then I can continue healing at home. I can't wait!
May 9
This is us on the way home from the hospital. It was so fun riding on top of the fire truck. The children were the happiest that I have ever seen them. They couldn't quit smiling and I couldn't quit bawling. It was a dream come true. Canon (my oldest son) yelled, "I'm living past the dream!" There were so many loved ones to greet us and cheer Leia on. It was so touching and one of the very best days of our lives! We are beyond grateful that she is home and doing so well. We feel complete being together again! It has been the best Mother's Day! I am so honored to be a mom to these beautiful children.
May 11
She is back to making popcorn with her daddy on Sunday nights.
It is so wonderful to have our little princess home. It is a beautiful sight to walk into her room and see her sleeping. Especially when she falls asleep with a wand in her hand. She is so loved.
The Beginning of May
Our family at church in the hospital. It only lasts for 30 minutes. It is perfect for all of our little ones and our big ones. Plus the love of the Lord is felt so strongly. He truly is there for all of us through our trials, our pain, and our joys.
Leia went on an outing to the Aviary with us. It was beautiful. She loved the flamingos. She likes to stand like them. It's adorable!
May 5
Our little lady is an inspiration. She is so patient through her intense therapies and works so hard. You would probably laugh if you saw us watching Leia. Our mouths are usually open and we are completely astonished.
The children came up to visit Leia. Leia saw Aria and her face just beamed. She threw her arms around Aria and wouldn't let go. It was so tender to watch. I stood there feeling overwhelmed with emotion that my children are blessed to be able to still have a beautiful connection with their sister. I am so grateful that I do not have to see their little hearts broken. We certainly do not deserve this miracle and we will certainly not take it for granted. It wouldn't surprise me is she came home next month. That will be a happy, happy, day! We love you all, dearly.

The End of April
April 20
Leia was able see her favorite furry friend on Easter. It's breathtaking to see her so happy.
Happy Easter!!!!
April 27
Hello, our dear friends. It has been another amazing week filled with so much emotion and hope. Leia continues to make a miraculous recovery. Brian and I find ourselves overwhelmed with emotion as we watch Leia standing, using both hands, sorting shapes, talking, asking to go home, and trying so hard to make her body do what she wants it to do. She loves to have her siblings with her. They were pulling away from the hospital and she called out, "Love you, friends!"
Every thought she expresses is a treasure.
The doctors and nurses remind us that if children recover from such a severe brain injury as Leia has, it takes a long time. It can take months, even years to get to where she is right now. They say that she is not the norm and they call her the "little miracle". We know that it is because of our loving and merciful Heavenly Father. All of your prayers, faith, fasting, and love is just what our little girl has needed. We are overwhelmed by everyone's love and generosity to our family. Our lives and hearts will never be the same.
I know this is a long read but I want to share one more thing. A beautiful young women wrote to the the prophet of our church. (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) She expressed her concern for Leia and she shared with us a letter that she received in return. It said that he was touched by her tender expressions of love and concern for Leia, and has asked that her name be put on the special prayer roll of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It said that the faith of these Brethren will be exercised in her behalf as they meet in the Salt Lake Temple. It was dated at the beginning of April.

How can Leia and our family not feel loved and supported with so many uplifting and loving people surrounding us, near and far? We have so much gratitude in our hearts for all of you.
Leia's next hurdle is to be able to eat and swallow. She'll do it.
It's beautiful to watch a miracle in action! Someday she'll come home! Probably in a couple of months. We will just take it a day at a time and learn to be grateful for each moment that we are blessed with.

The Fourth Week
April 11
Leia has always had a very special bond with her daddy. Anytime that she is sad, hurt or happy, she wants her daddy. She always tell us, "I'm a big girl like daddy!" She has definitely shown us that she has a great spirit like her daddy. She is doing amazing! Miracle after miracle. She's a big girl, just like her daddy!

If you ever find yourself fighting for life and need some help, I know just the right guy for you. He was an angel that was right by me when I needed it and gave me CPR. He's my hero!! Love, Leia
P.S. He told me that I can ride on his fire truck as soon as I'm better. It's a deal!

Leia showed me her beautiful, blue eyes today. It is such a beautiful sight.
And guess what? She's even wearing a shirt! Yay! She's getting better

April 6
We celebrated Brev and Selah's 1st B-day! We had a nice calm birthday party in Leia's room. We did decide that having birthday cake upstairs would be a better option. We are a bit messy and we didn't want Leia to feel sad not eating yummy birthday cake. She loves sweets! I guess it was fitting for the babes to celebrate their first year of life at the hospital. I can't believe it was a year ago that Selah was life flighted to this same hospital.
We were in a similar situation. We were praying, pleading, and asking for miracles. Here we are again, doing the same. We have learned and are still learning how precious and fragile life is. We know that our Father in Heaven has these precious children in His care. It is an honor to care for them and to watch miracles happen before our very own eyes. I sure hope there is not a limit on how many miracles you can receive. We have definitely had our share and we have been blessed more than we deserve.
Leia continues to make progress. Guess what? She smiled! It filled my heart with joy and has made me the happiest mom in the whole world!! She is so beautiful and her life is a gift. She has taught us that beautiful isn't always pretty. Her life will be beautiful. It might not always be pretty but it will be BEAUTIFUL!
We continue to feel love and strength through your prayers. Words can not express our gratitude. Leia loves you!窗体底端

Today has been amazing! Leia has been admitted into the rehab program! This means that she is medically stable (Hooray!) and they believe she can tolerate 3 hours of therapy a day. The Rehab team also said that she is starting to awaken out of her coma. I thought so. It's a process. It does not happen like it does in the movies.
She has been smiling and it's beautiful! Another highlight that happened today was in the hall. I was pushing her in her wheelchair and pulling her IVs along. Someone said to me that I sure have my hands full. I get that comment all of the time. I usually say or think in my head, "Yes, thankfully I do." Today, it meant something different to me. How very grateful I am to realize that Leia is still with us and that our hands are full. I have to keep pinching myself. If you think our hands are full, you should see our hearts.
She tracked a light for 5 seconds today! She pushed a ball off of her lap! So many miracles! Please keep hoping and praying for Leia. He hears our prayers and answers them in His time. We are so very grateful for all of you, especially to our Father in Heaven and our Savior. We pray that you will feel loved and blessed.

The Second Week
March 27
Every morning, the doctors make their rounds and discuss the needs of each patient. At the end of the discussion, they give a recap and a statement of current condition. The first few days, Leia's condition was determined to be "extremely critical." We have seen that condition change over the days, to "critical," then to "critical but slightly improved," then to "critical but stable." Today we witnessed yet another miracle when the doctor pronounced Leia's condition as "stable and recovering."
So, we were blessed today to move her from the ICU to the Neuro Trauma Unit. We know it is a long road to whatever recovery Leia will eventually have. But we are so grateful each day to have her hand to hold.

Holding a miracle
April 2
Leia had her NG tube (the feeding tube in her nose) removed after this picture. Now she has a feeding tube in her belly. She got her staples and stitches out, and Mom was able to wash her hair again. She's looking more like Leia now. The therapists have started working with her on trying to open her eyes, sit up, and feel things. Yesterday they brought in a dog for her to pet. She has been opening her eyes a little bit, but not focusing on anything yet. We are grateful for every bit of progress we see.
The First Week
March 19, 2014

March 25, 2014:
We are so very grateful for all of your prayers, love, and support for Leia and our family. It has brought us a lot of strength in the dark hours. Leia continues to struggle and her story is still uncertain. We have seen sunshine today. Her ventilator was removed and she has breathed on her own for a couple of hours. We pray she will continue to draw those precious breathes.
It looks like she will not require surgery on her neck and her neck brace was removed. She is still unconscious and there is no way to predict the effects of the brain injuries. We are just so happy and grateful for the miracle to hold her precious hand and have her close to us.
We have witnessed many miracles and have felt the love of our Heavenly Father and Savior. He has been so good to us. We love you all and appreciate your continued prayers and support for our beautiful girl.
